Train To Survive |
May 9, 2009 |
Today, members from Stations 21, 41, and 8-1 came together in Wrightsville for a
firefighter survival training instructed by Anne Arundel County Fire Department
Batallion Chief Matt Tobia. Firefighters learned emergency procedures with
their SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus). Also, the different features
and universal connections of each brand and model were covered in detail.
Firefighters then went inside and covered residential wall breaching.
After each team made it through a few holes, crews were able to relax and
hydrate before the next evolution. The thrid evolution simulated different
mayday situations. Crews were engangled via the SCBA, cut off at the end
of a hoseline, and trapped by a simulated ceiling collapse. All firefighters
were able to successfully complete all obstacles. The last evolution
for the day was a load bearing glass wall breach. This was done to show
rescue techniques for a firefighter that is well below the bottom sill of the
window. A special thanks goes out to BC Tobia for taking the time to give us this great training and to Station 41 for the excellent lunch. |
